I was eager to attend the coffee mornings as soon as my daughter was born. I didn’t know any other new Mother’s in the Toowoomba area and was eager to meet some mother’s as well as discuss and learn about parenting techniques. Despite the best of intentions I didn’t get to a morning until she was 6 months old as the weeks kept flying by before I could organise myself to get there - we live an hour out of town towards the Bunya mountains and I only go into Toowoomba once or twice a week - each trip seemed to be too busy with doctors appointments and grocery shopping before then! The first Mother’s group I attended I met Vicki (who became a committee member at the same time I did), whose daughter was born on the same day in the same hospital – amazing!
When there was a request for new committee members I was happy to be involved. I have decided not to return to paid work until my children are at school and felt being involved in the committee would help to keep my brain active and bring some variety into my weeks in an environment that supports having my children with me.
I moved to Toowoomba a couple of months before my daughter was born and didn't know anyone in Toowoomba except my husband and a friend of my Grandma's. After a couple of months of sitting around the house after my daughter was born I decided that there must be more to life than changing nappies and watching Oprah. My Mum suggested finding out if there was a CPEA in Toowoomba as she had been involved in the CPEA in my home town when I was a baby. I was given a brochure about the CPEA while I was in hospital so I decided to go along to the CPEA Coffee Mornings. I found the guest speakers to be informative and I also met some other lovely Mums and have since made some great friends. I've since become a CPEA Committee member because the CPEA is one of only a few organisations that organise events for Mums to meet other Mums with babies and toddlers and I think it is important that this service continues. Getting further involved in the Committee is also a great way to serve the community, make a difference, keep some of the skills that you gained in your working life alive and maybe develop some new skills at the same time.
new to Toowoomba and thought CPEA would give me an opportunity to meet other people I was going out of my brain with no adult company and a new baby to look after and was interested in the topics that were being presented.
The first time I came across the CPEA was when my daughter was about 18 months and I attended the Nearly New Sale. I was very impressed by the size of the event and quality of the clothes etc. It was great timing because I had been looking for something to be involved with and thought that any organisation which could pull this off was worth being a part of. It was only once I joined that I realised all of the other great services offered by the CPEA. I'm yet to go to one of the morning meetings but can't wait to see what they are about.
To meet other mums and hear the guest speakers
I moved to Toowoomba from Melbourne and wanted to make friends
I joined the CPEA because I wanted to get into the Nearly New Sale BEFORE everyone else. I had heard that if you were a member and volunteered to help at the sale you could check out the bargains PRE-sale.
We relocated to Toowoomba from Wellington, NZ in January this year. I joined CPEA to meet other mums and to belong to a parent’s organization
I had recently moved to Toowoomba from interstate due to my husband’s work. I did not know anyone here. I soon realized that life as a stay at home mum can be very lonely. I joined CPEA hoping to meet some new mums perhaps in a similar situation to myself and perhaps to gain some new parenting skills along the way
I joined CPEA as I was new to Toowoomba and didn't know anybody. My son was three months old at the time and I found that CPEA was exactly what I needed, the opportunity to meet other mums as well as gain lots of tips and information from the guest speakers. CPEA is a wonderful organisation.
Because I liked the way that they supported women and provided groups where anyone could attend
