All CPEA committee positions fall vacant in March every year at out Annual General Meeting. Committee positions become vacant during the year from time to time so please contact the CPEA president on 07 4632 2609 or contact us to indicate your interest in any committee position.
Don’t feel you can commit to a full-time Committee position but would like to help the CPEA in some way?? These casual volunteer positions require only a few hours every so often and no previous experience is necessary. Check out the following ways you can help CPEA Committee members.

Assist the Newsletter Editor:

Do you love to write? Perhaps you have recently read or experienced something related to parenting that you would like to share with other parents The Magazine Editor would love to receive your birth stories, book reviews/ summaries, and articles describing your Playgroup or other activities that you and your children enjoy together eg. Kindermusik, swimming etc.  We would also like to hear from if you know of a business that would like to advertise in the CPEA Magazine.

Assist the Promotions Officer (TV, Radio, Newspaper and Web):

Do you have any skills that could help promote the CPEA and its activities such as the Mums, Bubs and Toddler Coffee Mornings, Nearly New Sales, Ante-Natal Classes conducted by Liz Wilkes or postal Ante-Natal course.  Perhaps you have press-release writing skills or know how to create a web site or have media contacts at The Chronicle or at one of the television or radio stations.  Or maybe you know someone with these skills or contacts that would be willing to help.

Assist the Promotions Officer (Promotion Material Distribution):

Have you seen some of our brochures, posters and flyers and thought that you could do better?  If you enjoy creating promotion material we would love to hear from you.  The Promotions Officer (Promotion Material Distribution) also has the task of folding A4 pages into brochures after they have been photocopied and delivering them to various locations such as the hospitals, obstetrician and doctor surgeries, Playgroups and other places where expectant Mums and Mums with babies and toddlers visit in Toowoomba and surrounding areas.  This is a big job for one person so if you regularly visit a location or locations where other Mums visit we would appreciate your help in a bit of brochure folding and distributing our promotion material.

Assist the Coffee Morning Coordinators:

The Coffee Morning Coordinators would love your assistance with setting up and packing up the Coffee Mornings.  It’s a big job for one person so here is how you can help.  Setting up a Coffee Morning includes: getting the room key from Centre Management and opening the room; setting up chairs, morning tea and toys; greeting mums and making newcomers feel welcome. Having at least two volunteer Mums share the load in setting up would be the ideal situation.  Packing up includes: saying good-bye to Mums; packing up toys, food and chairs; returning the key. If you feel you could help either set up or pack up on a Coffee Morning approach either of the Coordinators at the next Coffee Morning you attend and put your name down on the roster. We also require some volunteer mums to be responsible for bringing the toy suitcase to each coffee morning.
Co-ordinators attend each session and they will ensure the smooth running of each session:  introducing and then thanking guest speaker; taking money from attendees and highlighting the topic of the next Coffee Morning, collecting money from attendees.

Assist the Membership Officer:

When Mums join the CPEA we would like to be able to send them more than just a membership card.  If you have some great ideas on things that the CPEA could include in a New Member Pack and would like to help create one then let us know.

Assist the Nearly New Sale Coordinator:

The Nearly New Sale is held twice a year in March and September and is the CPEA’s only fundraising event.  The Nearly New Sale provides families in the Toowoomba region with the opportunity to buy quality second hand baby and children’s clothes (Size 0000 to 14), school uniforms, toys, nursery equipment and other parent, baby and child related products at bargain prices. Families can make some money by selling clothes their children have grown out of, toys their children no longer use or nursery equipment that is no longer required.  The Nearly New Sale Coordinator relies on the assistance of many casual volunteers to help the event run smoothly.  You could help in any of the following ways:

  1. Be a Collection Point Coordinator by volunteering your home to be a drop off point for sellers to leave their clothes and toys.  Collection point coordinators sort through clothes to ensure they are of good quality and ensure that they have tags.  They then take items to the Nearly New Sale location on the afternoon before the Nearly New Sale.
  2. Help promote the Nearly New Sale by distributing flyers and posters
  3. Help unpack and sort items on the afternoon before the Nearly New Sale
  4. Greet people at the front door and collect entry money
  5. Look after individual tables/racks of clothes while the Nearly New Sale is running
  6. Handle money
  7. Help pack up items after the NNS is finished

If none of the above takes your fancy then why not just come along and buy up big or sell some goods and support the CPEA that way!  Volunteers with Retail or Event Management experience would also be of great assistance. Perhaps you know someone who can help provide the CPEA with signage at a reduced price (or no cost) to promote the event on the day or a business that could donate some yummy food to feed the volunteers after the event is over.  An extra bonus for Nearly New Sale volunteers is that they get to have first choice of all the clothes, toys and equipment on offer  before the event starts!

Become a Social Activity Coordinator:

Do you have any good ideas for additional social activities that the CPEA could promote to Mums with babies and/ or toddlers?  Perhaps you wish that Toowoomba had a walking group for Mums with prams or perhaps you would like to set up a playgroup for Mums with babies and meet at local coffee shops or at each other’s houses.  If you would like to be a contact person for such a group, the CPEA will help you promote it.
